I always say that BMW M5 C It is the best sedan to drive over the last few years, maybe even the last decade. It’s an exciting machine, feels so much better than the standard M5 that the standard car no longer deserves the M badge. I recently drove the M5’s strongest competitor, which is Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing And it felt much better than every M5 other than the CS but the CS was still better. But am I just a BMW fan or is it really that good? motor direction He recently put the M5 CS up against the aforementioned Blackwing (a newspaper favourite) and the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S.
2000 HP test
Honestly, all three super sedans have their own unique reason to drive/buy them. I can see their desire to lead all of them under specific circumstances. For example, AMG’s stunning V8 engine and luxurious cabin will make it a luxury tourer. Whereas the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is a roaring, fire-breathing naughty car that would make a great tire-smoking beast and ripping exhaustion. And the M5 CS is the sedan you want on a twisty back road, where precision and balance are more important than anything else. But what is the best? First, let’s check the specs.
The BMW M5 CS uses a slightly modified version of the M5’s familiar 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, making 627 horsepower and 553 lb-ft. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The AMG formula is all too familiar at this point, too, with the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 making 630 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. It gets a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. It’s Caddy that’s the most punchy, using a 6.2-liter V8 making 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet. Unlike the Germans, there are two transmission options – a six-speed manual or a ten-speed automatic – and the latter was the one used in the MT test and that’s important. The Black Wing is the only rear-wheel drive car out of the three.
So which one is the best? Well, without spoiling it, it really came down to the M5 CS and Blackwing, both of which were more fun than the AMG. Having paid both, I will say they are both excellent and I would love to own them too. However, the Blackwing was abandoned with its ten-speed automatic transmission. I firmly believe a manual is the only real option for a Blackwing, unless you can’t actually use a manual transmission, as it is an essential part of the car’s personality. Having said that, even with the car, the case is great. But that is the case with the M5 CS. Check out our MT review for the best.
