Parallel to the Astronomy Festival, Fleurance organizes the Film Festival at the Grand Angle Cinema. The event puts in competition six films related to astronomy, science and the environment. The jury, chaired by Julie Gayet, will award two prizes.
Since 2016, the Fleurance Astronomy Festival has presented sessions at the Grand Angle Cinema with films related to science, astronomy or the environment. This year, the film cycle became the Fleurance – Transitions – Science – Society Film Festival. A boom opens the festival to the latest – and generally unseen – films that explore the science, its challenges, and sometimes its excesses. A change also introduces a competition, organized by a jury of scholars and film personalities, chaired by Julie Gate. The actress should also discover the first movie on Sunday.
The selected films represent many contemporary and collective perspectives on scientific disciplines and the necessary transformations that science and our society are undergoing. Space exploration, ecology, augmented humans, sociology… Filmmakers today deal with these issues more than ever before, revealing extraordinary stories and characters. The Fleurance Film Festival wants to be the voice of this new cinema.
Six films in competition
The festival jury will award two prizes: Florence Film Festival Grand Prix: for a film that reveals the importance of science’s place in society, through a play or a particularly striking character; And the Azar Khalatbari Prize: for a film that specifically reveals the poetry of science and its impact on our lives.
