In this new adaptation directed by Goro Taniguchi, all the heroes of the series are present: Luffy’s crew and also their biggest opponents such as Big Mom, a powerful pirate the size of a giant, and her children, Furn and Bareilly. Frequently, sometimes for just a few seconds, iconic characters that our squad of fighters encountered as they ventured into the paper version appear on screen. What pleases diligent manga readers.

The animation of the graphics is close to that of the episodes of the series. The images are colored in pastel colors, providing a good dose of “kawaii” (aesthetics that evoke the world of childhood and cuteness). The movie is a full part of the One Piece manga galaxy (we find heroes, certain places…) but the script is exclusive and not related to the main plot of the series. Here, our heroes find themselves in a lighter, more festive setting. Finally, if the movie brings together all the elements that made the manga a success, especially the clever mix of humor and drama, it also takes on the features of a musical comedy thanks to this hero. A real novelty. Singer Uta sets the pace for her catchy songs including New Genesis (Powerfully interprets the Japanese Ado) who fascinates us from the first minutes of the film. In the French version, audiences will find Hochi’s raspy voice for this piece.

Without offering any real novelties compared to the previous films, this new composition does not lack energy and offers some beautiful musical scenes. This is precisely the aspect that makes its strength, making it accessible to both children and adults, loyal readers, or not, of the saga.
